NO SURPRISE: ONDONERDONCK NAMED MVP
Tribe's on-field play equals
off-field district recognition
Much like the Indians overwhelmed most of their opponents this year, the Indians dominated the 8-3A all-district selections.
Alvarado marched through district play undefeated and outscored its five opponents by an average of 55-3. Other district coaches recognized Alvarado’s play by giving the Indians’ 25 spots on the all-district team.
 Of the seven superlative awards, four went to three Indian players and the coaching staff.
Senior Wayne Onderdonck, (shown running with the ball in the photo at right), who rushed for over 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns, was named the district’s MVP.
Another senior, Tyler Bates, was named the district’s defensive MVP after intercepting eight passes, two sacks, 10 pass breakups, seven tackles for a loss and scored seven touchdowns.
Sophomore defensive end Brazos Fuller was named the district’s Newcomer of the Year after finishing the second with 62 tackles, 21 tackles for a loss, eight quarterback pressures and five sacks.
Alvarado’s coaches also earned a top honor as they were named the Coaching Staff of the Year.
Alvarado had six players earn a spot on the first team offense, including quarterback Kenny West, fullback Lee Hardy, wide receiver Austin Ellinger, tight end Michael Vanderhoff, center Rowdy Goff, and guard Juan Munoz.
Eight Indians earned spots on the first team defense, including tackle Kenny Adams, defensive end AJ Castillo, linebackers CJ Johnson, Ronald Thomas and Alex Gentry, safety Marcus McNeil, cornerback Xavier Holbert and punter Alex Gentry.
Earning a second-team selection on offense was running back Marcus McNiel, wide receiver Daniel Pinkerton, tight end Jake Geeo, guard Andrew Sevener, tackle Ruben Camperos and kicker Andrew Torres.
Linebacker Marcus Villareal and cornerback Andrew Leger earned second team all-district honors. |
